GrainGenes Updates

New Wheat Chromosome and Genome Maps for WGC Genes (ongoing)

Last Updated: March 5, 2020

As the GrainGenes curation team is curating genes from the Catalog of Gene Symbols for Wheat (WGC), we are creating interactive maps whenever possible.
These maps display the genes in their mapped locus positions and are added to the GrainGenes collection of maps to utilize in CMap, the comparative mapping tool.

All genes updated in this effort can be found at this GrainGenes Update page.

Wheat Gene Catalogue Curation (Ongoing)

The GrainGenes curation team is working toward a complete representation of the data in the Wheat Gene Catalogue (WGC) into the interactive SQL database at GrainGenes. Gene classes, genes, loci, maps, references and germplasm records are being updated and/or created as needed. Links to the Komugi database are added to gene class, gene, and allele records. All links below are to records in the GrainGenes SQL database unless otherwise noted.

July 2019: 197 Wheat Gene Catalog QTL now in GrainGenes

As of July 2019, all 197 QTL in the Catalog of Gene Symbols for Wheat (WGC), including Supplements through 2017 have been curated and added to GrainGenes. Some existing QTL were updated for germplasm, statistics and significant markers. For links to the WGC at Komugi, see the reference files for the QTL, or Click Here to visit the Komugi 'Catalogue of Gene Symbols Class list.

September 2020: Progress on the Oat Mapathon

Oat Mapathon 2020

In collaboration with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), oat maps identified as important legacy maps are adding to the GrainGenes collection of genetic maps. Links to MapData records, Reference records, and brief descriptions of the map sets are listed below in publication order. All maps below are available for comparative mapping using the CMap tool. Click on the map link in the map data record to be taken to CMap.

February - April 2019: Durum QTL added to GrainGenes

The Durum cv. Svevo Browser includes a QTL track with ~2100 encoded quantitative trait loci with abundant primary curation (i.e. references, traits, significant markers, and population information). At GrainGenes, these QTL are undergoing a 'secondary curation' after reviewing the primary reference.  The encoded QTL are linked to synonyms that are created to align with original names if possible, or with GrainGenes QTL nomenclature (i.e.

February 2019: Durum Wheat (cv. Svevo) RefSeq Release 1.0 is available at GrainGenes

In collaboration with the International Durum Wheat Genome Sequencing Consortium, GrainGenes is releasing the Durum Wheat (cv. Svevo) RefSeq Rel. 1.0 and its annotations.

The manuscript for the Svevo genome reference is accepted for publication in Nature Genetics. Please cite the manuscript for your publications.

Reference sequence, official annotations, and marker alignments are provided by the International Durum Wheat Genome Sequencing Consortium, and they are available at the GrainGenes Svevo Genome Browser.
