GrainGenes Updates

August 2023: GWAS results for pathology, salinity, and agronomic traits added to the IWGSC Chinese Spring v1 browser

Three new tracks have been added to the IWGSC Chinese Spring v1 genome browser aligning QTL and significant markers for salinity, pathology, and agronomic traits.

All QTL have records in the GrainGenes Database with reciprocal links to and from the browser.

Please see individual papers for QTL statistics and additional information.

Salinity Tolerance Traits

July 2023: 181 Wheat QTL for agronomic traits under organic and conventional practices.

181 agronomic QTL were created from 354 marker-trait associations (MTAs) in Semagn et al. (2022) Genome-wide association mapping of agronomic traits and grain characteristics in spring wheat under conventional and organic management systems. Crop Science 62:1069 doi.org/10.1002/csc2.20739. MTAs within ~20MB of each other were combined into one 'QTL' for this curation.

March 2023: Barley Gene links to NordGen updated

Links to the International Database for Barley Genes and Barley Genetic Stocks created by Udda Lundqvist and Jerry Franckowiak and currently maintained by NordGen have been updated for over 600 barley genes in GrainGenes.

Records in the Intl' Database contain a wealth of inheritance and mutation information, photos and descriptions of mutants, and comprehensive reference lists.

Example of GrainGenes records with new links are below:

February 2023: Stripe Rust QTL curated from the Vavilov wheat diversity panel

Stripe rust QTL from Jambuthenne et al. (2022) Mining the Vavilov wheat diversity panel for new sources of adult plant resistance to stripe rust. TAG 135:1355 DOI 10.1007/s00122-022-04037-8.

Forty-seven independent QTL were mapped on the IWGSC v1 assembly with DArT markers, 14 of which overlapped with previously described genes. These will be added to the Strip Rust track for the IWGSC v1 browser in progress.

February 2023: Wheat GWAS QTL Curation

GWAS QTL results in the publications below will soon be aligned on the 2018 IWGSC Chinese Spring v1 wheat genome browser. In preparation for that track these QTL were curated as QTL records in the GrainGenes database with links to significant markers, associated traits, Gene Ontology links, etc. As always in GrainGenes, all significant data is linked from the reference record. See below for the upcoming browser track in progress and please do not hesitate to recommend additions to this track,

Quality Traits

October 2022: The abstract book for the International Barley Genetics Symposium (IBGS) 2022 is available

The abstract book for the International Barley Genetics Symposium (IBGS) 2022 that took place in Riga, Latvia is available on the "Barley Boulevard" page under the "Abstracts/Short Talks/Posters from Barley Conferences" section.

September 2022: 106K SNP markers in GrainGenes added to the IWGSC RefSeq v1.0 (2018) browser

A track with ~106,000 Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) markers with records in the GrainGenes database has been added to the wealth of available tracks on the 'Wheat Chinese Spring IWGSC RefSeq v1.0 genome assembly (2018). These include the IWA and IWB SNP collections aligned with the original SNPs from participating labs. Look for this track in the "GrainGenes Curated Tracks" menu group.
