TRIAL DESCRIPTION AND SUMMARY The 2000 Uniform Regional Hard Red Spring Wheat Performance Nursery was planted at 18 locations and harvested at all locations in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Washington, and Canada (Table 1). The nursery contained 29 entries and 5 checks. Trials were conducted as randomized complete blocks with three replicates. Yield data obtained from Scotts Bluff, NE were not used in any of the over location averages nor in the stability parameter analysis. Data from each of 18 locations are given in Tables 2-1 to 2-18. The highest average yielding location was Pullman, WA with 83 bu/A and the lowest yielding location was 12 bu/A at Scotts Bluff, NE, because of early onset of heat during fill period. The average yield of 17 locations combined was 55.3 bu/A, with 14 lines in the first LSD unit. The top yielding three lines were SD3348, N96-0144 and SD3367. SD3496 was earliest to head at 21 days after June 1, with four lines heading 22 days after June 1. Four entries within the first LSD unit for test weight were ND726, SLW97606, SD3506, and ND729. Data for experimental lines and checks grown for two years are given in Table 3-3. N96-0144 and SD3348 were in the first LSD unit for grain yield. The highest test weight entry was ND726 at 62 lb/bu. Stability parameters for entries in 2000 are given in Table 3-3. A lower b value indicates less responsiveness to changing environments for yield. A high Msq indicates lower predictability for yield and should be a warning that individual locations caused major deviation from expected performance caused by either disease, agronomic problems or being unadapted to some environments. Adult plant field reactions to stem and leaf rust are shown in Tables 4-1 through 4-2. Scab reaction from field inoculation in Minnesota is given in Tables 4-3 through 4-5.
