RESULTS OF SPRING WHEAT ENTRIES GROWN IN COOPERATIVE PLOT AND NURSERY EXPERIMENTS IN THE SPRING WHEAT REGION IN 1996 The year 1996 was the 68th in the history of the uniform regional testing program. Data summarized in this report were obtained from (1) the uniform regional hard red spring wheat nursery, and (2) the uniform regional durum nursery. NEW CULTIVARS Hard Red Spring Wheat Sharpshooter (F994-601 - Awned, early, normal height. Leaf and stem rust resistant. Medium to high yield and high test weight. Moderately susceptible to foliar disease complex and lodging. Similar to Sharp, selected from the cross of Sumai #3/Sharp. Released by Western Plant Breeders in 1996. Gunner (N92-2031) -- Awned, late, normal height. Leaf rust resistant and moderately resistant to stem rust. Medium yield and high test weight. Moderately susceptible to foliar disease complex and lodging. Tolerance to scab. High protein content. Released by AgriPro in 1996. BacUp (MN2535) -- Awned, very early, normal height. Leaf and stem rust resistant. Low to medium yield and very high test weight. Moderately susceptible to foliar disease complex and lodging. High tolerance to scab. Very high protein content.
