RESULTS  OF SPRING WHEAT VARIETIES GROWN IN COOPERATIVE PLOT AND NURSERY EXPERIMENTS IN 
 THE SPRING WHEAT REGION IN 1983
 
 The year 1983 was the 55TH in the history of the uniform regional testing program. Data 
 summarized in this report were obtained from (1) the uniform regional hard red spring 
 nursery.

 Hard Red Spring Wheat
 
 Apex (VRP-8-30) Awned, early, semidwarf with moderate lodging resistance Moderately 
 resistant to stem rust and resistant to leaf rust. High yield and test weight. Medium to 
 low percent protein. Released by Western Plant Breeders in 1983.
 
 Challenger - (WRP-8-1) Awned, early, semidwarf with moderate lodging resistance. 
 Moderately resistant to stem rust and resistant to leaf rust. High yield and test weight. 
 Medium to low percent protein. Released by Western Plant Breeders in 1983.
 
 Erik - (HS79304) Awned, late to midseason, semidwarf with good lodging resistance. 
 Moderately resistant to stem and leaf rust. High yield and low test weight. Medium to low 
 percent protein. Released by North American Plant Breeders in 1983.
 
 Guard - (C.I. 17934, SD 8015). Awned, early, semidwarf with good lodging resistance. 
 Moderately resistant to stem and resistant to leaf rust. Resistant to Hessian fly. High 
 yield and test weight. Medium protein percent. Released by South Dakota Agricultural 
 Experiment Station in 1983.
 
 Wheaton - (P.I. 469271, MN73168) Awned, midseason, semidwarf with medium lodging 
 resistance. Resistant	to stem and leaf rust. Very high yield and low test weight. Low 
 protein	percent. Released by Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station and USDA-ARS 
 in 1983.
 
 2369 - Awned, midseason, semidwarf with moderate lodging resistance. Moderately resistant 
 to stem rust and susceptible to leaf rust. High yield and test weight. Medium to low 
 protein percent. Released by Pioneer Hi-Bred in 1983.
