Trial Description and Summary

The 1981 Uniform Regional Hard Red Spring Wheat Performance Nursery (URHRSWPN) was
planted at 23 locations and harvested at 20 in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota,
Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Washington, Nebraska, and Canada (Table 1). The
nursery contained 30 wheat entries, 5 checks (4 tall and I semidwarf) and 25
experimentals (7 tall and 18 semidwarf). Yield data obtained from Dickinson, Aberdeen,
and Tetonia were not used in the overall average. Winnipeg was destroyed by hail. Data
from 20 stations are given in Tables 2-1 to 220.

For the entries grown at the stations, the highest average yield was 64.8 bu/A at
Aberdeen, Idaho, while the lowest average yield was 17.1 at Dickinson, North Dakota.

 Entries Butte, SD2861, ND575, SD2868, and ND585 headed 19 days after June 1 while ID0162
headed 28 days after June 1. The average yield and bushel weight data of all entries for
1981, 1980-81, and 1979-81 are shown in Table 3. Seventeen wheats exceeded Era in 1981,
and 6 exceeded Butte, the highest yielding check, MN7357 followed by MN73168 and
NK75S2634 were the highest yielding entries in 1980-81. ND581 was the highest yielding
normal height line in 1981 while ND575 was the highest in 1980-81. ND573 and Butte were
the only entries to equal or exceed 60 lb/bu test weight in 1981. The highest test weight
line in 1980-81 was SD2868. Adult field reactions to stem and leaf rust are shown in
 Tables 4-1 and 4-2, respectively.
