This was caused by 1) favorable growing conditions and 2) an increase of 43 percent in the acreage planted. Of the four major spring wheat producing states, Minnesota showed a very dramatic 146 percent increase in the number of bushels produced. Bushels of durum wheat produced were increased by 72 percent over a year ago, but still the total production was below that of the 1969 crop year. The record 1969 production of durum wheat was mainly attributed to the acreage planted.
