SPRING WHEAT PRODUCTION, 2002
 
 SPRING WHEAT OTHER THAN DURUM   Growers produced an estimated 401.6 million bushels
 (10.2 million metric tons) of spring wheat.  This production estimate is approximately 
 21.6 percent lower than year 2001 production, and approximately 27.8 percent lower 
 than 2000.  Yield averaged 29.5 bushels per acre, a decrease of 5.7 bushels per acre 
 from year 2001, and 8.9 bushels per acre lower than in year 2000.  Area harvested 
 totaled approximately 13.6 million acres (5.44 million hectares), which is 
 approximately 6.4 percent lower than harvested area in 2001.
