SPRING WHEAT PRODUCTION, 2001
 
 SPRING WHEAT OTHER THAN DURUM   Growers produced an estimated
 512.6 million bushels (13.9 million metric tons) of spring wheat.
 This production estimate is approximately 8 percent lower than
 year 2000 production, and approximately 2 percent higher than
 1999.  Yield averaged 35.2 bushels per acre, a decrease of 3.2
 bushels per acre from year 2000, and 1.1 bushels per acre higher
 than 1999.  Area harvested totaled approximately 14.6 million
 acres (5.8 million hectares), which is approximately 0.5 percent
 higher than harvested area in 2000.
