TRIAL DESCRIPTION AND SUMMARY The 1993 Uniform Regional Hard Red Spring Wheat Performance Nursery was planted at 22 locations and harvested at all locations in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Washington, and Canada (Table 1). The nursery contained 32 entries, 5 checks (4 tall, 1 semidwarf) and 27 experimentals including two sawfly resistant lines. Trials were conducted as randomized complete blocks with 3 replicates. Yield data obtained from Prosper, Redfield, Powell, Madison and Swift Current were not used in any of the over location averages nor the stability parameter analysis. Data from each of 22 locations are given in Tables 2-1 to 2-22. The highest average yielding location was Aberdeen, Idaho with 109 bu/A and the lowest location yield was 7.5 bu/A at Redfield, South Dakota. The average yield of all locations was 50 bu/A and seven experimentals were in the first LSD unit (5.5 bu/A) from the best yielding entry. Eight locations with acceptable C.V.1s with scab epidemics were summarized in Table 2-24. The average yield of these locations was 40 bu/A. The LSD was 6.2 bu/A and nine experimental were in the top LSD group. Table 2-25 are the locations not reporting scab. The LSD was 7.7 bu/A and seven experimentals were in the first LSD group. Drastic switches occurred among the entries with the exception of N90-0671 and SDO005 which appeared in both. N86-0348, XW398A4, MN90114, SBE0444, and SBE0437 appear in the non-scab table but were not in the first LSD unit in the scab locations. SD8070, N90-0666, SDO010, ND671, SD8073 and SD8072 all appeared in the scab locations but not the nonscab. Six entries were tied for earliest to head at 30 days after June 1, while Era was latest to head at 37 days. Experimentals with the highest test weight were ND674, ND671, and SD8070. Data for experimentals and checks grown for two years are given in Table 3-1. XW398A4, N86-0348, SD8073, SD8072, SD8070, and Butte 86 were in the first LSD unit. ND671, SD8070, SD8072, and Butte 86 had test weights of 59 lb/bu or better. Stability parameters for entries in 1993 are given in Table 3-2. Compared to other years, deviations from regression were considerably greater than normal. Scab obviously affected these results by causing much greater deviation from linearity. Experimentals with deviations of 170 or less were N88-3140, 8601AE3C, ND673, ND671, MN90253, and ND678. Greenhouse seedling and adult plant field reactions to stem and leaf rust are shown in Tables 4-1 to 4-3, and Fusarium head blight from field inoculation is given in Table 4-4.
