TRIAL DESCRIPTION AND SUMMARY

The 1983 Uniform Regional Hard Red Spring Wheat Performance Nursery (URHRSI-TPN), was
planted at 22 locations and harvested at 20 in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota,
Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Washington, Nebraska, and Canada (Table 1). The
nursery contained 34 wheat entries, 5 checks (4 tall and 1 semidwarf) and 29
experimentals (7 talls and 22 semidwarfs). Yield data obtained from Dickinson, Sheridan,
and Tetonia were not used in the overall average. Data from 20 stations are given in
 Tables 2-1 to 2-21.

For entries grown at the stations the highest average yield was 79.3 bu/A at Aberdeen,
Idaho while the lowest average yield was 10.5 bu/A at Tetonia, Idaho.

Entries SD8026 and SD2861 headed 25 days after June 1 while Marquis and Era headed 3 days
after July 1. The average yield and bushel weight data of all entries for 1983, 1982-83,
and 1981-83 are shown in Table 3. Eleven wheats exceeded Era in 1983 and 10 exceeded
Butte, the highest yielding check. MN7529 and ND582 were the highest yielding entries in
1982-83. Butte was the only wheat to equal or exceed 60 lb/bu test weight in 1983.

The highest test weight line in 1982-83 was Butte. Stability parameters for the entries
in 1983 and percent of times the line appeared in the top five entries at each location
are given in Table 3-2. Seedling reaction to stem rust and adult field reactions to stem
and leaf rust are shown in Tables 4-1, 4-2 and 4-3, respectively.
