TRIAL DESCRIPTION AND SUMMARY

The 1982 Uniform Regional Hard Red Spring Wheat Performance Nursery (URHRSWPN) was
planted at 22 locations and harvested at 20 in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota,
Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Washington, Nebraska, and Canada (Table 1). The
nursery contained 34 wheat entries, 5 checks (4 tall and 1 semidwarf) and 29
experimentals (6 talls and 23 semidwarfs). Yield data obtained from Morris, Dickinson,
Aberdeen, Tetonia and Havre were not used in the overall average. Pullman lacked yield
data. Data from 20 stations are given in Tables 2-1 to 2-21.

For entries grown at the stations the highest average yield was 79.9 bu/A at Winnipeg,
Canada, while the, lowest average yield was 33.4 bu/A at Selby, South Dakota.

Entries ND594 and SD2903 headed 20 days after June 1 while Marquis, Era, HS79304, ND590
and HS79400 headed 35 days after June 1. The average yield and bushel weight data of all
entries for 1982, 1981-82, and 1980-82 are shown in Table 3. Twenty-five wheats exceeded
Era in 1982 and 15 exceeded Butte, the highest yielding check. MN7357 and MN73167 were
the highest yielding entries in 1981-82. ND582 was the highest yielding normal height
line in 1982 while SD2854 was the highest in 1981-82. Butte, PR2369, ND594, SD2881, and
SD2903 were the only wheats to equal or exceed 60 lb/bu test weight in 1982.

The highest test weight line in 1981-82 was Butte. Stability parameters for the entries
in 1982 and percent of times the line appeared in the top five entries at each location
are given in Table 3-2. Seedling reaction to stem rust and adult field reactions to stem
and leaf rust are shown in Tables 4-1, 4-2, and 4-3, respectively.
