Trial Description and Summary

The 1980 Uniform Regional Hard Red Spring Wheat Performance Nursery (URHRSWPN) was
planted at 23 locations and harvested at 20 in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota,
Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Washington, Nebraska, and Canada (Table 1). The
nursery contained 30 wheat entries, 5 checks (4 tall and 1 semidwarf) and 25
experimentals (7 tall and 18 semidwarf). Yield data obtained from Dickinson, Sidney,
Aberdeen, Tetonia, and Sheridan were not used in the overall average. Data from 20
stations are given in Tables 2-1 to 2-10.

 The average yields at the three irrigated stations, Carrington, North Dakota;
Aberdeen, Idaho; and Bozeman, Montana, were 70.2, 45.6, and 85.0 bu/A respectively. For
the entries grown at the non-irrigated stations, the highest average yield was 95.7 bu/A
at Pullman, Washington, while the lowest average yield was 15.7 at Dickinson, North
 Dakota.

Miscellaneous agronomic and disease data are summarized in Table 2-21. Entry SD2868
headed 14 days after June 1 while WA6758 headed 24 days after June 1. The maturity range
was between 30 and 36 days after August 1.

The average yield and bushel weight data of all individual entries for 1980,
1979-80, and 1978-80 are shown in Table 3.

Only two wheats exceeded Era in 1980, MN7357 and NK75S2634. In 1979-80, MN73168 and
MN7222 exceeded Era. ND575 was the highest yielding normal height wheat followed by
ND573, Butte, and SD 2700. Butte was the only normal height line with yield data from
1979-80. SD2868, SD 2870, and ND 573 were high test weight lines in 1980. Butte is the
highest test weight line for 1979-80.

Seedling reactions to stem rust are given in Table 4-1. Adult field reactions to
stem and leaf rust are shown in Tables 4-2 and 43, respectively.
