BARLEY GENETICS NEWSLETTER, VOL. 9, VI. DESCRIPTION OF GENETIC STOCKS
pp. 131-133

Applications for new BGS numbers have been accepted in the last year. However, some of them need clarification before the BGS numbers are assigned and the description of the genetic stocks are published.

In this issue description for only two stocks was given.

BGS 0220 Chlorina seedling   f3

Previous nomeclature and gene symbolization: None

Inheritance: Monofactorial recessive (1). Not allelic to fc, f2, f4, f5, f6, f7, f8, f9 (3,4). Chromosomal location on chromosome 5 (2).

Description: Bright yellow seedlings. At the early seedling stage the leaves are yellow. As plant grows in normal light the leaf color changes to light green. The plants remain chlorina until maturity and are readily identified from normal green plants. Plants grow vigorously. Six-rowed. Seeds are naked.

Origin of mutant: Spontaneous mutation in unknown variety.

Mutational events: f3 in unknown variety.

Mutant used for description and seed stock: f3 in CSU T8-16     n v Uz K b O R S

BGS 0260  Chlorina seedling   f 11

Previous nomenclature and gene symbol:
Pale green (pg) (2)
NC 24 from C.R. Burnham (personal communication).

Inheritance:  Monofactorial recessive located on chromosome 6 (1, 2).

Description: Light green seedlings, often having white spots on seedling leaves, and plants remain light green until maturity. Plants have good viability and are easily classified in segregating populations.

Origin of mutant: From x-rayed seed of cv. Himalaya (n, R.). Obtained by Caldecott and North, Univ. of Minnesota as 76-4 -> C.R. Burnham numbers 8824 -> 11580 -> 12381 -> 15286 and 15287 -> 17532 (GBC 357) and 17533 (GBC 359). GBC numbers of Kasha.

Mutational events: f 11 in Himalaya.

Mutant used for description and seed stock: f 11 (GBC 359 pg), n, R, v
