Besides continuous efforts to isolate and analyze translocations, our future work will concentrate on a detailed analyses of glo- (rounded grain) mutations. In addition some nec- (leaf spotting) mutations will receive further attention with regard to their use as marker genes.
After test crosses with translocation lines some additional symbols are suggested for recessive mutants localized on the following chromosomes:
Description of genetic stocks
A. globe shaped grains
1343/63 recessive mutant, from x-ray seed treatment, cultivar Proctor. globe shaped grains and round tips of lateral spikelets, Locus glo-a, chromosome 4
916/65 recessive mutant from x-ray seed treatment, cultivar Donaria, globe shaped grains no side effects, Locus glo-b1, chromosome 7
1080/72 recessive mutant from x-ray seed treatment, cultivar Villa, globe shaped grains, very lax ear. Locus glo-c, chromosome 2
1345/72 recessive mutant from x-ray seed treatment cultivar Villa, globe shaped grains, stunted growth, low in 1000 kernel weight. locus glo-b2, chromosome 7
B. necrotic leaf spots
1339/62 recessive mutant from x-ray seed treatment, cultivar Proctor, large, dark brown leaf spots appearing before heading
Locus nec-?, chromosome 6, linked to Locus 00; r = 0,28+0,06
728/63 recessive mutant from x-ray seed treatment, cultivar Proctor, small, black leaf spots, Locus nec-?, chromosome 3
HLNEP71/48 recessive mutant from EMS seed treatment, cultivar Diamant, circle shaped dark brown leaf spots, Locus nec-?, chromosome 3
1024/65 recessive mutant from x-ray seed treatment, cultivar Donaria, small seeded, stunted growth, heavy tillering, Locus gran-a, chromosome 3
2235/64 recessive mutant from x-ray seed treatment, cultivar Proctor, narrow leaves, stunted grassy growth habit, Locus fol-a, chromosome 2
