11.13. Allelism tests of chromosome 4 mutants.

As a result of the finding by Haus and Tsuchiya (1972), Tsuchiya (1973), Tsuchiya and Haus (1973) that gl is allelic to gl2 and that gl3 is allelic to gl4, some other similar mutants that have been located on chromosome 4 have been tested for allelism. The following mutant stocks have been partially tested for allelism:
All of these mutants have been located on chromosome 4 except f3 and lg5 which are of unknown location.
Of the crosses involving chlorina mutants, the following allelic relationships were found:
lg5 not allelic to f,,j
lg4 not allelic to f3
f,,l not allelic to lg4
lg4 not allelic to f,,j
f,,l not allelic to f,,j
For the crosses involving the glossy leaf mutants, the following allelic relationships were found:
gl,,v not allelic to gl3
cer-j not allelic to gl3
cer-j not allelic to gl,,v
gl not allelic to cer-j
Takahashi (1973) has found that f,,l was not allelic to f9, so it appears that there are at least five chlorina or light green mutants on chromosome 4, three of which are mapped: lg2, lg9, and f9; and two (f,,l and f,,j) which have been associated by linkage or translocation data.
Of the mutational events for glossy seedling which have been reported on chromosome 4, all show allelism with either the gl or gl3 locus.
