Since the latest overall
coordinator’s report in Barley Genetics Newsletter Volume 31, no important
changes of the coordinators have been reported during 2001. I do hope that most
of you are willing to continue with this work and provide us with new
information and literature search. Unhappily some of the coordinators are going
to retire from their positions or they do not find the time to do anything on
their reports because of other commitments. The coordinator for Chromosome 1H
(5), Jens Jensen, will retire from his position in Denmark at the end of 2002,
and Gunter Backes at the Risø National Laboratory, Denmark is willing to
replace him. But Jens Jensen is willing to help with updating the chromosome
map, his e-mail addresses are listed in the “List of Barley Coordinators”.
The conversion of the Barley Genetic Stock Descriptions of about 650
different barley gene loci with including the images into the International
Triticeae Genome Database “GrainGenes” according to the ACEDB format is still
in progress and is planned to be fulfilled during 2002. This year 55 new and
revised descriptions of different morphological and physiological traits have
been compiled. Look into the section of “Descriptions of barley genetic stocks
for 2001”. In connection with this section revised lists of BGS descriptions by
BGS number (Table 2) and by locus symbol in alphabetic order (Table 3) are
republished in this volume.
