II.44. Allelism tests of some chlorina mutant genes of barley.

Allelic relationships have been studied for 13 chlorina mutants which are shown in Table 1.

The genes f, fc, f7, f8, and f9 have been found to be separate loci (2,3). The gene f4 was located on the long arm of chromosome 1 (1L), and f5 on 1S by telotrisomic analysis (1,4). The gene f6 was associated with chromosome 6 (Tuleen, personal communication). The results obtained from this experiment are shown in Table 2.

From the results shown in Table 2, the following conclusions are derived:

1. f3 is not allelic to f4, f6, f7, f8, and f9.
2. f4 is not allelic to f5 or f8.
3. Chlorina gene in a variety Ko-C is not allelic to f even though their character expressions are similar.
4. Chlorina gene in Colsess VII is not allelic to fc in Colsess V, and does not show maternal inheritance.
5. Chlorina gene in 28-3117 is allelic to the genes in 28-3117-2 and the gene in Nepal chlorina.
6. The possible maternal inheritance of these last 3 genes has not yet been determined.
