II.41. Allelism testing between established marker stocks and Swedish mutants.
T. Tsuchiya, Department of Agronomy, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado 80521, U.S.A.
Many mutants induced and collected in Sweden have been tested for their allelic relationships among themselves. However, very little has been done to test the allelic relationships between established marker genes and the Swedish mutant genes expressing similar characteristics. It has already been shown that many recently induced mutant genes are allelic to the spontaneous or induced mutant genes used as linkage markers (Fukuyama, et al., 1972, BGN 2:25-27; Häuser and Fischbeck, 1972, BGN 2: 28-29; Tsuchiya, 1971, BGN 1:62; 1972, BGN 2:80-87). As a part of the program at the Barley Genetic Stock Center in Colorado, allelism testing is under way. The following is a part of the results so far obtained.
From the results shown above, the following conclusions are derived:
1. cer-a is allelic to gs 3 for glossy sheath and spike
3.
2 cer-m is not allelic to gs 6 for glossy sheath and
spike 6.
3. Both ebu-2 and ebu-3
are allelic to al for albino lemma.
4. aur-a is allelic to li for liguleless.
5. lig-3 needs further detailed analysis.
