In the past two volumes and this issue of BGN, the descriptions of genetic stocks have been published. A BGS (Barley Genetic Stock) number was given to each of those stocks included in the description.
For these four stocks a revised description was given (P. 121-123, 119)
Also in this list "Gs 2 gs 2" for "Normal vs. glossy sheath" and similar type gene description was changed to:
glossy sheath 2 gs 2
because one stock could not be "normal vs. glossy sheath", nor Gs 2 gs 2.
This is the first list of barley genetic stocks which have been given gene symbols, BGS numbers, and detailed descriptions. Additional lists will be continuously published in BGN as gene descriptions are prepared and BGS numbers are given.
The overall coordinator and the Genetic Stock Center in Colorado ask barley geneticists, particularly coordinators for individual chromosomes and special materials, to prepare a description for the genes which he has responsibility, and send them to the editor of BGN (T. Tsuchiya). BGS numbers will be given and the list of these genes will be published in BGN.
An alphabetical list of the genetic stocks and revised version of description
of many genetic stocks will be published in the next issue, Volume 4.
Please disregard the list of genetic stocks published in BGN, Vol.
1, page 91-96 (VI-1), and Vol. 2, page 169-170 (VI.1). All requests for
genetic stocks should be based on this list.
