BGS 608, Proanthocyanidin-free 28, ant28

Stock number: BGS 608
Locus name: Proanthocyanidin-free 28
Locus symbol: ant28

Previous nomenclature and symbolization:

None.
Inheritance:
Monofactorial recessive (4).
Located in chromosome 3HL, close to the Est4 (esterase 4) locus (1)
Description:
Mutant plants synthesize a wildtype amount of anthocyanins in their vegetative parts. The testa layers of the mutant grains lack catechins and proanthocyanidins. The ant28 gene affects the proanthocyanidin specific branch of the flavonoid pathway, but the exact nature of the gene action is not known (3).
Origin of mutant:
A sodium azide induced mutant in Grit (PI 548764, NGB 13685) (2).
Mutational events:
ant28.484 in Grit (4); ant28.493, 28.494, 28.495 in Catrin (4); ant28.2092, 28.2093, 28.2095 in Nairn (4); ant28.2131, 28.2132 in Alexis (PI 564487, NGB 13688) (4).
Mutant used for description and seed stock:
ant28.484 in Grit (NGB 13711); ant28.2131 in Alexis (NGB 13712).
