INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONTRIBUTORS TO VOLUME 24 OF THE BARLEY GENETICS NEWSLETTER
The original manuscript and one copy should be sent to the Technical Editor:
Dr. D.E. Mather, BGN Technical Editor, c/o Dr. P.M. Hayes,
Crop Science Department, Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon 97331, U.S.A.
before January 31, 1995, with (if possible) an electronic copy of your manuscript on a 5¼ or 3½ inch diskette. (This will allow the editors to reprint the manuscript if the format is not correct, if an obvious error is noticed, or if the paper copy is damaged.) Please specify the word-processing software used to prepare your file. WordPerfect 5.1 is preferred; if another format is used, please include an ASCII file as well.
ALL CONTRIBUTIONS SHOULD BE ORGANIZED AND PRINTED SO THAT THEY CAN BE
PHOTOCOPIED FOR INCLUSION IN BGN. The editors thank contributors to Volume 23 for their efforts to provide camera-ready copy. Most manuscripts required minor adjustment (reprinting from diskettes submitted, photoreduction and other creative copying, application of white-out, etc.) but very few required re-typing. For Barley Genetics Newsletter to fulfil its role as a newsletter, it needs to be published quickly, and this can only be done if the manuscripts received are truly camera-ready. Therefore, the editors ask contributors to carefully read and follow the following instructions:
- Manuscripts should be written in English and should be brief.
- Each paper should be prepared separately, with the title and the authors' names and addresses centred at the top of the first page.
- Manuscripts should be typed or laser printed on white bond paper. The text should be no wider than 15.5 cm., and no longer than 23 cm; ie. it should fit within the frame on this page. It should start 3 cm down and 3 cm to the right of the upper left-hand corner of the paper. Do not use the final margins in this volume as your guide; the pages are trimmed in the binding process. On 8½ X 11 in. paper (North American letter standard), use top, left and right margins of 1.2 in, and a bottom margin of 0.7 in. On A4 paper (international standard), use a top and left margins of 3 cm, a right margin of 2.5 cm and a bottom margin of 3.7 cm.
- Manuscripts should be single-spaced with a double space between paragraphs.
- Do not use line-numbered paper.
- Do not number pages.
- Do not fold your manuscript.
- High quality black-and-white figures (eg, laser-printed graphs, line drawings, and linkage maps) may be included in the camera-ready copy. Photos and figures with grey tones should be submitted on separate sheets from the text. Photos will be reduced for reproduction, so please prepare your original picture larger than the size to be printed.
