Coordinator's report: The genetic male sterile barley collection

M.C. Therrien
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

The male sterile barley collection was grown out in the summer of 1992, with all lines segregating for the male sterility character. Each of the 448 spring barley stocks produced sufficient seeds to store 500 g of each line under cryogenic conditions. Back-crossing into the original stock will commence in 1994, with approx. 10% of the stock backcrossed per annum. There was a single request for 12 lines since the last report and no communications from workers on recent male sterility research. An electronic literature search indicated no publications in 1993. A stock list (rather lengthy) is available upon request, as its seed of the collection, by writing to the coordinator, or at THERRIEN@MBRSBR.AGR.CA through Internet. Researchers are encouraged to submit matters of interest to the coordinator, as well. All contributions are welcome.
