I have not received any correspondence from colleagues concerning genic male sterile work in the last year. Consequently, I have nothing to report. I would suspect that the major contributing factor is the fact that there has been a change of address for your coordinator! Please note the address change (above). I apologize for any difficulties this may have caused. I would be pleased to communicate any items of interest (re: msg work) in the next issue of BGN and correspond with anyone in this area of interest.
The male sterile collection was transferred to Brandon in time for planting in 1992. A portion of the collection was planted in the field, with each of the 448 accessions surrounded by Bedford six-row feed barley, a locally well-adapted cultivar. We have limited quantities of the ensuing F1 crossed seed for anyone who is interested. However, because of the limited quantity of seed of the original material, and because of limited resources, it will be some time before we have sufficient seed of most lines for distribution purposes. If there is any specific msg lines that you are interested in using, we would be willing to propagate (within reason) such material for you, given sufficient advanced notice.
