BGS 512: Resistance to Puccinia graminis Pers. f. sp. tritici Eriks. & E. Henn. (black stem rust), Rpg2b

Previous nomenclature and symbolization:

T2 for resistance to black stem rust, Puccinia graminis tritici (3).
Inheritance:
Monofactorial dominant (2)
Inherited independent of Rpg1a (1, 2, 3).
Located on chromosome - unknown
Description:
The gene confers moderate resistance to certain races of P.g. tritici. Reaction types were reported similiar to those conferred in adult plants and seedlings by the Rpg1a gene (1, 3). Patterson (2) reported that Rpg2b is inherited independent of Rpgla and Shands (3) demonstrated that Rpg2b is not linked to Run1a, resistance to Ustilago nuda, while the linkage of Run1a and Rpg1a was 2.04 + 0.45 units.
Origin of mutant:
Spontaneous occurrences in a barley seedlot from Appleton, Wisconsin, which was collected in 1937 and later released as Hietpas 5, CI 7124 (3).
Mutational events:
Rpg2b in Hietpas 5, CI 7124.
Mutant used for description and seed stock:
Rpg2b in Hietpas 5, CI 7124, 816-7.
