The Carlsberg Collection of f lavonoid mutants now comprises 724 induced barley mutants, in which different steps in the pathway of flavonoid bio-synthesis are blocked. 621 of these mutants are proanthocyanidin-free, whereas 75 mutants are deficient in anthocyanin synthesis and 28 mutants show an increased synthesis of anthocyanin in different tissues of the plant compared to their mother varieties. By diallelic crosses 504 of these mutants have been localized to 25 gene loci. In all mutants the inheritance is monofactorial recessive.
