IV. 2. Coordinator's Report. Chromosome 1.

Further evidence for the location of mo5, multi ovary, on chromosome 1 was presented by Tazhin (1982). Linkage between mo5 and n, hulless, was reported with a 3.8% cross-over value.

Two esterase loci, Est3 and Est5 were found to be associated with chromosome 1 by trisomic analysis and subsequently confirmed by wheat-barley addition line analysis (Nielsen, 1982).

Shahla and Tsuchiya (1982, 1983a) have presented evidence with telotrisomic analysis that ac2, albino seedling, is located on the short arm (1S) of chromosome 1. This is contrary to Sogaard's (1977) three point linkage test results that indicated that ac2 is located on 1L. An additional point on this gene is that Wettstein and Kristiansen (1982) reported that act is allelic to alb-m27.

Telotrisomic analysis has indicated that the linked genes br fc and gs3 are located far from the centromere on 1S and that br is distal to the other two genes, fc and gs3 (Shahla and Tsuchiya, 1983b).

Ramage (1983) has presented evidence that seg8K, shrunken endosperm, is located on chromosome 1 by linkage with the break-points of translocations. Further work is being done to determine linkage relations between the various maternal plant monofactorial recessive shrunken endosperm loci and chromosome 1 (segl, seg2, seg4, seg5, seg8).

New aneuploid discoveries show promise as additional tools for genetic analysis of chromosome 1. Additional information has been gained about the length of the acrotrisomic 1L1S (Shahla and Tsuchiya, 1983c) and a new trisomic for a centric fragment has been found (Shim and Tsuchiya, 1983).

Wolfe (1984) has presented an update on the development of multiple dominant and recessive (in coupling) genetic marker stocks for the seven barley chromosomes (Wolfe, 1979; Wolfe and Campbell, 1976). The recessive stock for chromosome 1 includes msg10, br and cer-a*. Other genes available in multiple genetic stocks are wx, n and lk.**

The various new data reported herein do not alter the linkage map of chromosome 1 previously published in BGN 13.

* Allelic to gs3 (Editor).
** This should be lk2 but not lk. The gene lk for the long awn is an allele of Lk for short awn in chromosome 2 (Editor).
