Intergeneric hybrids between Hordeum vulgare cultivars Betzes and Bonus and Agropyron intermedium (2n = 6X = 42) were obtained at the rate of 3.9% and 1.7%, respectively, of pollinated florets. The hybrids were sterile but vegetatively vigorous resembling the paternal parent in floret structure, pubescence and a weakly rhizomatous character. The chromosome number in somatic cells was 28 as expected and stable. In meiocytes, however, 45% of the cells were aneuploid and others showed chromosome fragmentation. Based on a low frequency of paired configurations there was no obvious homology between parental genomes.
