II. 12. Telocentric chromosome for the short arm of chromosome 7 (telo 7S) in barley. (1)

A. Shahla and T. Tsuchiya, Department of Agronomy, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado 80523, U.S.A.

A plant (IItr81-23-8) which has 2n = 15 plus one telo 7S chromosome was found in the F2 population from the cross Triplo 7 x yst3 (Tsuchiya and Shahla, 1982). The plant showed the typical characteristics of Triplo 7 (Semierect) which is small with narrow and short leaves, short spike, large florets and short awns. This partial tetrasomic plant for chromosome 7 showed fairly high seed fertility; 56.5% in artificial selfing and 76.0% in the cross 2n = 14 x 2n = 15 + 1 telo 7S. It is very likely that plants with 2n = 14 + 1 telo 7S will be recovered in the progeny of this plant and a telotrisomic for the short arm of chromosome 7 will be established.
