INTRODUCTION
The 2013 Uniform Midseason Oat Performance Nursery was grown at 15 locations in 8 states
and 4 Canadian provinces.  Agronomic data collected at Aberdeen, Idaho, and Lacombe, Alberta,
are presented but not included in the overall nursery averages because these locations are out
of the range of normal adaptation.  Single rep data from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, are presented
in a separate table (Table 25).  The nursery was not grown at the South Dakota locations this year
due to a transition in project leadership.
The "Comments on Growing Conditions" provide some insights on performance at the various
locations.  The 2013 nursery average yield of 122.7 bu/A was well above the 2012 nursery average
of 105.1 bu/A and the 2011 average of 90.0 bu/A due to some very favorable growing conditions at
several locations.  Winnipeg had an excellent yield average of 213.7 bu/A and Minot and Fargo had
high averages of 157.5 and 151.8 bu/A.  In contrast, Carrington had a low average of only 57.2 bu/A
due to hot, dry conditions.   Crown rust pressure was reported at St. Paul and West Lafayette
locations and lodging at West Lafayette and Urbana.
The highest yielding entry was  SD111939 with an average yield of 143.5 bu/A.  It was also highest
in test weight.  Sister line entries of this line were also high in yield and test weight, but it and most
of its sib lines were low in lodging resistance. The two Aberdeen, Idaho, entries performed well in
the highly favorable conditions at the the Canadian locations of Winnipeg and Lacombe, although
not so well in the other locations.
Coefficient of Variation (CV) and Least Significant Difference (LSD) values for yield are provided
for each location in Table 5 ‘Average yield (bu/A), yield, and rank at stations reporting the
2013 UMOPN’.  These values were either supplied by the cooperator or calculated using the
individual plot data submitted by the cooperator.  This information plus the listing of ‘Plot Data’
and ‘Comments on Growing Conditions’ at individual locations should help in interpreting the results.
A list of recently released cultivars including state or program of origin, assigned name,
experimental line number in testing, nurseries tested in, and pedigree can be found in
Appendix C.  This list, in addition to being included in the annual nursery reports, is to be
maintained in an updated fashion on a GrainGenes website:
