Dr. Norman T. Kendall

Norm Kendall retired as Managing Director of the Brewing and Malting Barley Research Institute June 30, 1998.

Born and educated in Great Britain, Norm graduated in 1965 as an Associate of the Royal Institute of Chemistry and, in 1969, received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Manchester. From 1968 – 1971 he worked for Cadbury-Schweppes in Bournville, before starting his brewing industry career with Bass Brewing Company at Burton-on-Trent, England. Norm came to Canada in 1976 and spent two years as Head Brewer with Carling O’Keefe’s Newfoundland Brewery. He them moved to Montreal, where he was Head Brewer with La Brasserie O’Keefe. In 1987 he moved to Winnipeg as Managing Director of the Brewing and Malting Barley Research Institute and retired from that position June 30,1998.

During his eleven years at the BMBRI Norm became well known to those in the North American barley research and development community and his direction, dedication and keen sense of humour will be missed.
