Abstract
A selection of 17 wheat cultivars released in Ethiopia was grown together with one local cultivar at four sites (Arjo, Bako, Gedo and Shambu) in two years (2001 and 2002). Compared to the local control, all cultivars were earlier in flowering and maturity and shorter in plant height. In terms of grain yield, most of the improved cultivars did not surpass the local control, however, the highest mean yields were obtained by the two new cultivars 'HAR 1685' and 'HAR 604'
