Abstract
A field experiment was performed in 1998-2003 in Poland to determine the influence of different rates of N (0, 80, 120 and 160 kg ha SUP -1 ) on grain yield and technological quality of two winter wheat cultivars (Begra and Korweta). Korweta was characterized by a higher grain yield in comparison to Begra. Begra was characterized by higher profitable values of technological quality parameters (sedimentation ratio, bread volume, falling number and gluten weakening) in relation to Korweta. An increase of grain yield of winter wheat was recorded with the application of N at 120 kg/ha. Diverse application with N in all rates determined the average protein content in grain in the 2 cultivars. Values of the technological parameters of the 2 cultivars showed high tendencies in all rates of N application. The optimum N rates having influence on the most important quality parameters, i.e. gluten content, sedimentation ratio and bread volume, were 160, 80 and 120 kg N ha SUP -1 , respectively
