Abstract
The performance of barley hybrid F SUB 1 s, along with their parents in terms of plant height, spike length excluding awns, internode length below spike, spikes per plant, kernels per spike, kernels per plant, kilo-grain weight, kernel weight per plant, dry matter weight per plant, protein content and lysine content in kernels were investigated in 2 field experiments conducted in 2001-02. Most of the traits were significantly different among the parents, and the superiority over the high parents for agronomic and yield traits was recorded in F SUB 1 hybrids. However, the multiple correlation degree of the average of F SUB 1 with that of its male and female parents was less than the alienation degree in most traits. Based on the results, it would be difficult to precisely predict the performance of F SUB 1 s from their male and female parents. The genetic correlation and alienation among hybrid and its parents, and improved methods of predicting heterosis in hybrids are discussed
