Abstract
The performance of 11 wheat cultivars (Chakwal-86, Kohinoor-83, Pasban-90, Iqbal-2000, Chinab-2000, MH-97, Auqab-2000, Chakwal-97, Parwaz-97, Inqlab-91 and Punjab-96) was determined in a field experiment conducted in Pakistan during the kharif season of 2003. Significant differences were observed among the cultivars in terms of the number of tillers per plant, number of grains per spike, 1000-grain weight, number of days to maturity and grain yield. Pasban-90, MH-97 and Chakwal-97 recorded the highest number of tillers per plant (7.87), number of grains per spike (42.67) and 1000-grain weight (48 g), respectively. Chakwal-86 recorded the highest spike length (9.51 cm), number of days to maturity (122.66) and grain yield (1762.98 kg/ha)
