Abstract
Bulked segregant analysis was used to develop random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers linked to Pm18, the gene in wheat which confers resistance to powdery mildew (caused by Erysiphe graminis f.sp. tritici). Some 320 decamer primers were screened, one of which (S411600) was identified as an RAPD marker linked to Pm18. Using the F2 population mapping population from the cross Pm18 x Chancellor, S411600 was shown to co-segregate with Pm18. The distance between S411600 and Pm18 was 0 cM. S411600 was very reliable in tracking Pm18. This marker can be conveniently used for marker-assisted selection in wheat breeding programmes for the identification or pyramiding of Pm18 with other resistance genes
