Abstract
Five monosomics induced by X-rays in the hexaploid oat variety Cherokee and designated as A, B, C, D, and E were crossed to the hexaploid oats C.I. 7451, Victoria, Markton, Black Mesdag, and Richland, the hexaploid species, Avena fatua (grey seed), Avena fatua (yellow seed), and Avena sterilis maxima and the chlorophyll mutants 'necroticleaf', 'alboviridis', and 'netting'. Monosomic F was crossed to A. fatua (grey seed), A. fatua (yellow seed), A. sterilis maxima, and homozygous fatuoid. The following results were obtained: 1. The crown-rust gene L of Landhafer and a gene for seed luminescence are located on monosome D. 2. A gene for 'netting' designated nt-1 is located on monosome A. 3. A gene for 'necrotic leaf' designated nl is located onmonosome B. 4. A gene for 'alboviridis' designated av is located on monosome E, probably on the long arm. 5. A gene or genes for the cultivated type of grain are located on monosome F. This proves that monosome F corresponds to the 'C' chromosome of the Series ft or modified Series fi fatuoids reported by Huskins. 6. The stem rust genes A, B, C and D, the crown rust gene or genes of Victoria, and a gene for pubescent leafsheath are not located on monosomes A, B, C, D, or E. 7. A dominant gene for black kernel designated B is not located on monosomes B, C, D or E. 8. Monosomics A, B, D, E, and F are definitely different from each other. Monosomic C was proved different in a previous report.
