The growing season was ideal for oat production. Soil moisture was ample throughout the oat growing season; temperatures were cooler than normal and ideal for oat growth. Natural aphid populations were minimal, thus yellow dwarf was negligible in non-inoculated plots. Crown rust was negligible, except in inoculated nurseries. Natural infection of stem rust developed very late in oat grain fill. Wind was not severe until late in oat grain fill, so lodging occurred late in the season.
