Abstract
A population of 84 recombinant inbred lines derived from a cross between 'Kanota' and 'Ogle' oat (Avena sativa L.) cultivars were analyzed to identify the chromosomal regions associated with morphological and agronomic traits using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) markers. This population was evaluated for three years in Ithaca, NY and four years at Aberdeen, ID. Quantitative trait loci were observed at multiple regions throughout the genome for grain yield, test weight, groat percentage, straw yield, days to heading, and plant height (alpha < 0.01). Most QTL were detected in more than one environment and pleiotropic effects were prevalent. Multiple linear regression models that included significant markers for each trait accounted for 15% to 52% of the phenotypic variance. Interactions between unlinked significant markers for a trait were not detected.
