Abstract
The grain yield and quality characteristics of two substitution lines of durum wheat, Langdon 1D(1A) and Langdon (Edmore-1B), and their F2-derived progeny lines carrying different endosperm protein components were measured Significant genotypic differences for yield and flour quality characteristics were observed, but differences in the grain N levels were not significant The quality parameters, such as SDS-sedimentation values, the proportion of glutenin (P1%) and the ratio of glutenin to gliadin (P1/P2) as determined by size-exclusion liquid chromatography, dough mixing time and peak resistance, were all increased in genotypes carrying the Edmore gamma-45 band, and the effects were even more pronounced (two-fold increases) with the substitution of chromosome ID for 1A These quality characteristics of genotypes carrying both chromosomes ID and gamma-45 genes were increased over those containing one or other of these genetic factors, indicating that the effects were additive for all quality characters except the Mixograph parameters, peak resistance and resistance breakdown
