Abstract
The performance of wheat cultivars Mahouti, Roshan and Kavir under saline conditions was evaluated and compared with that of cv. Kharchia and Chinese spring cultivars in a field experiment conducted in Iran. Mahouti recorded the highest germination rate percentage, germination rate, radicle and plumule length. Compared to the other cultivars, the germination percentage of Mahouti was not affected when salt concentration was increased to 200 mM. Even at 450 mM salt concentration, germination percentage of the cultivar reached 66% of the control cultivar. At seedling stage, plant dry weight was the most suitable trait for assessing the salt tolerance of the cultivars. The Na SUP + /K SUP + balance was not maintained in Mahouti when salt concentration increased to 250 mM
