Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during rabi 2000-01 and 2001-01 in Pantnagar, Uttar Pradesh, India, to investigate the effect of 2 sowing dates, i.e. 22 November (normal) and 22 December (late), on yield contributing characters and yield of 12 wheat genotypes (CPAN-3004, NIAW-34, PBW-343, PBW-373, RAJ-3077, RAJ-3765, UP-2003, UP-2338, UP-2382, UP-2425, WH-542 and WH-896). The yield contributing characters were maximum under normal-sown condition, which were significantly higher over late-sown condition. PBW-343 gave significantly higher yield contributing characters and grain yield than other genotypes during 2000-01, while UP-2425 gave significantly higher yield over other cultivars during 2000-02. The yield contributing characters and grain yield in normal-sown condition was highest in PBW-343, which was at par with UP-2338 during 2000-01 and UP-2338, Raj-3765 and UP-2425 during 2001-02. In late-sown condition, UP-2425 outyielded all other genotypes. UP-2338 and Raj-3765 gave the best results in both normal- and late-sown conditions
