Abstract
Lovitt hard red spring wheat ( Triticum aestivum ), developed in Saskatchewan, Canada, is adapted to the Canadian prairies. Lovitt is earlier maturing than AC Barrie with similar grain yield and smaller kernels. Lovitt has resistance to prevalent races of leaf and stem rust ( Puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici [ P. graminis ]) and loose smut ( Ustilago tritici [ U. segetum var. tritici ]). Lovitt has very good preharvest sprouting resistance similar to RL4137. Lovitt is eligible for grades of the Canada Western Red Spring wheat class
