Abstract	Transgenic wheat carrying the P SUB SAG12 -IPT gene was obtained by A. tumefaciens -mediated transformation of wheat cv. Xinong 1376. The integration of the gene into the wheat genome was confirmed by PCR amplification, GUS histochemical staining and Southern blot analysis. The gene was stably inherited in the succeeding generations. Leaf cytokinin content, leaf senescence and other agronomic characters of the transgenic wheat were not significantly different from those of Xinong 1376 indicating silencing or partial expression of the P SUB SAG12 -IPT gene
