Abstract
Wheat Coefficients of Parentage (WCOP), an information system intended for use by wheat breeders for the selection of superior parents and evaluation of genetic diversity, was developed. The system creates pedigree trees for each line selected by the breeder through crosses and selection history, as well as ancestry. The pedigree trees are then included in the Multiple Parentage Tree, which identifies lines that are related, and simultaneously calculates the WCOP. The calculation is based on Mendel's genetic theory, on the algorithm of Rodgers and Cox, and on the rules applied by Souza. WCOP, which is based on the analysis and design of information systems, relational databases and analysis of algorithms, was developed under the Visual BASIC for Windows. WCOP was used for the evaluation of genetic diversity among 4 high-yielding lines: ERA, ARRAS, TASSILO and CYRANO. An ancestror common to ERA and the other lines was not identified. Significant genetic similarity was observed between ARRAS and TASSILO (50%), TASSILO and CYRANO (25%), and CYRANO and ARA (15%)
