Abstract	Experiments on suspension cultures of Saccharum sp demonstrate that the formation of furan fatty acids is Ca2+-dependent Inhibition is not complete but reversible and the lack of influence on the fatty acid pattern points to impairment of a lipoxygenase system which is involved in the biosynthesis of these acids
