Abstract
This special issues contains 10 papers entitled: Release of transgenic bacterial inoculants - rhizobia as a case study; Bacterial communities associated with the rhizosphere of transgenic Bt 176 maize ( Zea mays ) and its non transgenic counterpart; Effects of transgenic potatoes with an altered starch composition on the diversity of soil and rhizosphere bacteria and fungi; Persistence and impact on microorganisms of Bacillus thuringiensis proteins in some Zimbabwean soils; Microbial communities of Solanum tuberosum and magainin-producing transgenic lines; Risk assessment for engineered bacteria used in biocontrol of fungal disease in agricultural crops; Development of a model system to assess the impact of genetically modified corn and aubergine plants on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi; Persistence and biological activity in soil of the insecticidal proteins from bacillus thuringiensis , especially from transgenic plants; Microbial horizontal gene transfer and the Dna release from transgenic crop plants; and Activity of microorganisms in the rhizosphere of herbicide treated and untreated transgenic glufosinate-tolerant and wildtype oilseed rape grown in containment
