Comment
Malate transporter Almt-D1 gene (GenBank AB081803) is completely linked to aluminium tolerance in chromosome arm 4DL between SSR markers Xwmc48b and Xwmc331 in a similar region to Alt2 (Raman et al., 2005).
Almt1 transgenic expression in barley conferred and Al-activated efflux of malate with properties similar to those of Al-tolerant wheat (Delhaize et al., 2004).
Alt2 was mapped to a 4 cM interval flanked by Xpsr914-4D and Xpsr1051-4D (Luo and Dvorak, 1996)
Alt2 is on a consensus 4B-4D map of T. aestivum; Alt2 - 1.1 cM - Xbcd1230-4D (Riede and Anderson, 1996)
Alt2 cosegregated with Xbcd1230-4D and fell within the interval Xgdm125-4D - 4.8 cM - Alt2 -1.1 cM - Xpsr914-4D (Rodriguez Milla and Gustafson, 2001)
